Education, Training & Research (ETR)
In my role as a Health Design Manager at ETR, I manage the development and implementation of multiple programs that advance adolescent health and wellness, with a focus on trauma-informed and healing-centered practices, tackling entrenched public health issues like substance use, mental health, and sexual and reproductive health. I work closely with our design team to deliver a wide range of assets, including specialized recruitment, curriculum, and dissemination materials.
Next4You
A web app intervention delivering comprehensive sex ed through gamified microlessons tailored to the experiences of foster youth who often miss out on critical sex ed while dealing with transient living situations.
- organized and delivered trauma-informed, healing-centered sessions with a cohort of nine former foster youth, engaging them over the course of 16 months to collect key insights.
- empowered Next4You co-designers to provide feedback on moodboards, review curriculum content, and build user personas
- translated these key insights for our curriculum and digital development teams as well as our design team to create a visually appealing online platform and engaging content for recruitment and the curriculum and helped to build and test the Next4You platform.
INSPIRE+
A design accelerator for prototypes aimed at addressing the root causes of unhealthy substance use in communities most impacted by the War on Drugs. In 2022, INSPIRE+ received the AHI Excellence in Adolescent Health Award wellness, which recognizes teams who are doing exceptional work in the field, with a particular focus on programs that intentionally center anti-racist practices in their work.
- built and delivered community-centered, culturally competent curriculum on human-centered design to multiple cohorts in Sacramento and Alameda Counties, managing a team of facilitators, coordinating with community partners, and engaging directly with INSPIRE+ design fellows.
- program implementation ranged from virtual, hybrid, and fully in-person formats, and included listening sessions, focus groups, interactive lessons, and student-led data collection and analysis.
- each INSPIRE+ cohort culminated in a Pitch Day, when design fellows presented their prototypes to community members to introduce youth-led, innovative design provocations that reimagine radical new futures for their communities to improve mental health and substance use.
